About the area
According to Wikipedia, Albrighton is mentioned in the Domesday Book as Albricston(e) or the home/farm of Albric/Aethelbeorht, and received its charter in 1303, which was renewed in 1662 for rather unusual reasons. The charter declared that “because Albrighton (then) adjoined Staffordshire on the east, south and west sides, felons and other malefactors fled Staffordshire to escape prosecution because there was no resident justice of the peace in that part of Shropshire”.
Albrighton is one of only a few villages in Shropshire which has a village green.
It is surrounded by pleasant countryside is situated within easy reach of a number of major tourist attractions, notably the nearby RAF Museum at Cosford, with its spectacular new building housing a comprehensive Cold War exhibition, and the world famous David Austin Roses, historic Tong Village and Boscobel House, with its association with the escape of the future King Charles II following his defeat at the Battle of Worcester. Also within easy reach are Weston Park which has a regular calendar of events, including the annual V Festival and Game Fair, and the ten Ironbridge Gorge Museums of industrial heritage. All of these attractions are within a short drive of Albrighton.
